Canada has actually been somewhere that I’ve wanted to visit for a very long time but, for some reason, it has taken me a long time to get here. As country 56, it’s fallen behind the in priority list.
But we’ve been now and all I can say is it was worth the wait… mostly anyway.
Our original plan was to fly to Vancouver and take in all of it’s sights and the wonders that it offers. After staying there a week, we were going to take the train from Vancouver to Toronto. 4 days of peace and beautiful views as we wound our way across this massive and beautiful country.
Unfortunately, due to “operational issues on the train” (the maintenance staff were on strike so we think it was actually that) our train was cancelled so we took a last minute flight to Toronto and stayed in that area for a week. A little disappointing but to be fair to Via Rail, they gave us a full refund and free tickets for next time. So we’ll be back.
As for what we did see, Vancouver and British Columbia stole the show. It is such an amazing place. Vancouver is a modern, super clean, friendly and fun city with loads to do and see and lots of awesome places to eat and drink. We stayed at the Shangri-La (http://www.shangri-la.com/vancouver/shangrila/) which was perfectly located and really nice.
